Barons War - A little bit of everything

21st May 2007

This years Barons War was a great event. The variety of weather was nice but not overwhelming. Some rain, cold nights, warmer days.

Lots of good heavy weapons fights, many new authorizations in both heavy and light weapons. Tons of archery and I even had the please of watching the equestrians ride their mounts to the equestrian ring.

Dernehealde Throws A Snowball! & Middle Marches Baronial Championships - Dec. 9,2006

11th December 2006

Dec 9 - Dernehealde Throws A Snowball! & Middle Marches Baronial Championships

This turned out to be a nice event at a old converted daily barn down in Athens, Ohio. While the weather was a little chilly, the fighters, fencers and throw weapons partipicants had some very good competition.

Regarding the heavy weapon fighters, we have one fighter complete their authorization renew and several advanced authorizations. The competition for Baronial Champion was a pool turney. We split the group into 2 pools, and the top 2 fighters from each pool advanced to the semi finals. They then run thorugh another pool and the top two were the finalist.

The final round was fought between Aine from Tirnywydd and Gunnolf from Mugmort. It was a best 2 out of 3 rounds and came down to the third round. It was a very vigerous set of bouts fought with two weapons, but in the end Gunnolf managed to win the day.

Congrations to all the fighters and congratulations to Gunnolf, the new Baronial Heavy Weapons Champion.

Welcome

30th June 2006

Greetings to the Marshals and Heavy Weapon fighters of the Middle Marches
From Joseph Grunewald of york
The new Baronial Marshal for the Middle Marches

The opportunity to serve the barony again is one that I am honored to perform and I thank their Excellencies for that chance. My goal for the next few years is to help you where it is needed. I plan to make arrangements to visit all the groups in the barony. If your going to be hosting an event let me know in advance I will do my best to be there to assist or participate. If there is something specific that you could use help with please let me know.

I have asked our Web-minister to add an Internet link on the officers page next to the Marshals information. It sends you to a small website where I intend to post event info, official and unofficial news, links to related web sites and other stuff of interest to the fighters. Take a look and let me know if you have any suggestions. Feel free to add comments to any of the public posts.

As the new baronial marshal I would like to thank all of the local marshal’s and our MIT’s for all the hard work they have put in to help train the baronial forces that take our battlefields. Your dedication is appreciated by the rest of us who enjoy the fruits of your labors on the tournaments and battlefields of the Midrealm.

As you all know there is a new Midrealm marshal handbook. If you have not done so yet print off a copy and take a look, it makes for good reading.

Yours In Service to the Barony and Kingdom
Joseph Grunewald of york

Event report for Grand Tournament of the Unicorn XIV

28th April 2006

As part of my goal to get to more events we decided to attend the Grand Tournament of the Unicorn which was held on April 22nd. The weather was perfect for outdoor fighting and the campus buildings really added a nice background.

After a few new authorizations, they had a novice tourney, followed by a great weapon tourney. The great weapon tourney was a first for me as my skills in that area always seems to be rusty. However I did manage to win my first 2 bouts. It was great and everyone enjoyed the challange.

That was followed by a 5 fighter team tournemants, with various format for the different rounds.

The final events was a warlord tounament. There was enough fighters to really make it a challenge.

A great event, and one that I intend to return to in the future.

Joseph
